Growing up with a musician father, Sami began to learn music at a tender young age. They spent their teenage years in punk basements and venues around the Washington DC area, going to every punk show they could find and playing in bands with their friends. After high school, they moved to Montréal to study ethnobotany at McGill University.
They are delighted to be more than a decade into a rich music career that has seen them working at record labels, touring North America with their (former) post-punk band Composite, and curating hundreds of epic dance parties. 2024 marks their tenth year with Heart of Gold DJs, spinning everything from soul to funk, disco to new wave, modern pop to 90s throwbacks - no matter the genre, there is a good chance they already have your favorite songs in their collection.
When they aren’t obsessing over their newest musical find, they are found nurturing a longtime infatuation with plants, land stewardship, and working as a psychedelic guide.

We don't live in SF so it was great to be able to use Google docs and FaceTime/Skype to nail down the details. She even catered to the Father of the Bride who provided a last minute "mash up" instead of the planned song for the Father-Daughter dance. If you want a romantic wedding and a rocking reception, have Sami DJ your wedding. She is the best!"

Every song perfectly met the moment, from the garden party to cocktails to dinner, and I cannot overstate what an incredible dance floor experience we had.
